Renovating your bathroom? Choosing the right tile can feel overwhelming with so many options to choose from. Here are a few tile selection tips to help you get started.
Even if your bathroom is small, consider using larger tiles in the remodel. Why? Well, with fewer tiles in your bathroom, you’ll have less grout to clean and maintain.
Keep the Floor Neutral
Using a bright, colorful tile on the floor can draw the eye down, away from the rest of the space. A neutral floor will allow you to experiment with pops of color elsewhere.
Create Visual Interest
Using a few different types of tile can create more visual interest than sticking to one. However, it’s a good idea to limit yourself to three types of tile to avoid a distracting, “busy” look.
Pick Your Favorite
Pick your “must-have” tile, whether it’s an expensive tile you’ll use primarily as an accent, or a simple tile you’ll use throughout the bathroom. Build your color palette from there, choosing colors that complement your favorite tile and/or neutral colors.
Smooth tile is great for walls, but it can be a slip hazard on a wet bathroom floor. Consider using a textured tile for flooring—it can also feel warmer on those chilly winter mornings.
Think in Multiples
When selecting more than one tile, make sure the sizes are multiples of one another to avoid uneven grout lines. For example, a 12 by 12 floor tile would go well with a 4 by 4 wall tile.
